Journey, an employee assistance program (EAP) that focuses on mental health, has scored $8 million in Series A funding.
Cambrian Growth Partners led the round, with participation from Manchester Story, Canaan Partners, J-Ventures, J-Impact, Life Science Angels and HealthTech Capital.
WHAT IT DOES
Journey describes itself as a proactive EAP mental health platform that is "embedded into the rhythm of daily work," individualized to each employee and available globally.
The company states that, unlike traditional EAPs that employ a "crisis response" model, Journey reaches out to individuals when warning signs are first detected before problems escalate.
Journey touts that its proactive approach to mental health combines digital tooling, tailored engagement and hands-on support.
"This funding is a major milestone, not just for Journey, but for the future of mental health at work," Stephen Sokoler, founder and CEO of Journey, told MobiHealthNews.
"We're using the capital to double down on what sets us apart: personalization, proactive outreach and meaningful results. That means expanding our AI-powered support tools, deepening our clinical impact and growing our global reach. Employers are tired of low-impact, reactive solutions. We’re building a platform that actually engages people and changes lives, before a crisis hits."
MARKET SNAPSHOT
In 2024, Alight announced the expansion of its Alight Partner Network with the addition of two partners, Journey and Carrot Fertility, a fertility and family-building platform.
That same year Journey acquired Felt, a startup formerly known as Mine'd that matches individuals with therapists using AI.
Other companies in the employee mental health/EAP space include Palo Alto, California-based Calm Health, which in June expanded its reach globally by rolling out in UK and Canadian markets.
Calm Health works with employers and health plans to offer support for mental and physical conditions, including mental health screenings to identify the symptoms and severity of anxiety and depression.
The company also supports the psychological impact of health conditions and life experiences through clinical programs that utilize cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy.
Earlier this month, Teledoc Health launched Wellbound, an EAP designed for employees.
The program leverages Teladoc Health's clinical product portfolio and consumer engagement services to help organizations create an "on-ramp" for employee wellness.
