Diagnostics giant Labcorp has introduced Test Finder, a generative AI tool developed in conjunction with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Test Finder aims to simplify lab test selection by permitting healthcare providers to ask questions or describe conditions in simple language and receive carefully chosen test recommendations.

Test Finder was developed using Amazon Bedrock, a service for building generative AI applications and agents with large language model technology.

Additionally, the tool allows providers to receive a detailed list of suggested tests and descriptions based on their input.

Test Finder will allow access to thousands of lab tests across therapeutic areas, such as oncology, women's health, neurology and autoimmune disease.

"Clinicians are under increasing pressure to do more with less," Dr. Brian Caveney, Labcorp's chief medical and scientific officer, said in a statement.

"Test Finder is designed to ease that burden by providing a faster, more intuitive way to navigate complex test menus, conduct research and identify the right tests, so clinicians can focus on what matters most, their patients."

THE LARGER TREND

In 2022, Labcorp partnered with Getlabs to offer at-home sample collection for lab tests

With the service, dubbed Getlabs for Labcorp, users can schedule an appointment online for an at-home blood draw. The phlebotomist can then collect other samples, such as saliva, stool, urine and breath, and also measure vital signs.

That same year, Labcorp introduced Labcorp OnDemand, an online platform where users can order tests and possibly collect samples at home.

Patients choose tests through the platform, and a physician can approve and review requests without a required doctor's visit. Some tests allow patients to collect samples in their homes, while others require them to go to a Labcorp collection center. Patients can then view results through the platform.

Tests available via Labcorp OnDemand include colorectal cancer screenings, COVID-19 PCR tests, cholesterol and lipid panels, general health blood tests, pregnancy tests and sexual health screenings.

In January, AWS joined forces with investment firm General Catalyst to co-develop and deploy integrated AI-powered offerings that focus on needs in predictive and personalized care, interoperability, operational and clinical efficiency, diagnostics and patient engagement.

The companies leveraged generative AI through Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic and Mistral AI, alongside securely trained healthcare-specific models.

In 2024, Kipu Health collaborated with AWS to deliver a suite of original AI solutions for healthcare providers.

The initial offering within the AI suite was designed to simplify clinical workflows by transcribing patients' sessions, generating progress notes and delivering chart summaries for providers.

The Kipu Intelligence Program is intended to leverage AWS' AI offerings to advance ethical AI solutions that decrease the administrative workload for healthcare providers.
