The U.S. International Trade Commission determined Apple Watches with ECG functionality violate AliveCor patents, but an import ban is on hold until appeals wrap up in a case before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board determined three AliveCor patents regarding the detection of heart conditions like cardiac arrhythmias were unpatentable.

Medication management-focused Arine raised $29 million, Epic-based virtual care platform KeyCare scooped up $24 million, and care coordination software company CareHarmony raised $15 million.

Also: Pediatric behavioral health company Brightline partners with a youth health education nonprofit to develop teen programs, and digital fitness startup FitOn launches courses for seniors and people with chronic conditions.

Also: Patricia Baran joins personal ECG company AliveCor, while SDOH analytics platform Socially Determined and virtual surgery startup Proximie both add two new members to their executive teams.

The technology is able to take a single-lead ECG in 30 seconds. 

Also: Overjet hires Dr. Teresa Dolan as chief dental officer, Valo Health appoints Dr. Dave Morris as chief medical officer and AliveCor adds four new people to its executive team.

AliveCor asserts that Apple knowingly copied its patented technology in an effort to squash it as a market competitor.   

The partnership will be looking to use AliveCor's Kardia-K AI, which is designed to measure a patient's potassium levels. 

The company hopes that its more descriptive reports will distinguish the personal ECG offering from others limited to atrial fibrillation detection alone.
