Philips diabetes self-care app with integrated virtual community Philips has unveiled a mobile diabetes monitoring system, developed in partnership with Netherlands-based Radboud University Medical Center and Salesforce, for people with type 1 diabetes.

Indianapolis-based pharma giant Eli Lilly has announced the company now offers an Android version of its app, called Glucagon, which is designed to help caregivers and providers treat people with diabetes if they fall into an insulin coma.

Some 46 percent of healthcare professionals want to introduce smartphone apps into their practice within the next five years, according to a survey conducted by market research company Research Now of 500 healthcare professionals and 1,000 health app users in the US.

Dexcom Guide, the company's current education-only app Continuous glucose monitor maker Dexcom announced that it will partner with insulin pump maker Silicon Valley-based Asante Solutions so that users of Asante devices will be able to access that data from Dexcom's not-yet launched smartphone app.

Israel-based HelpAround, which makes an app that connects people with diabetes in the same immediate area, has raised $550,000 from Windham Venture Partners and angel investors Walter Winshall, Robert Oringer and former Harmonix COO Michael Dornbrook.
